JSC women’s soccer beats Green Mountain College 3-1

The JSC women’s soccer team got off to a rocky start this season, but restored a measure of hope to their fans with a three-to-one victory over Green Mountain College on September 27.

The JSC women were looking for their first win when they hit the road to Poultney for their second North Atlantic Conference game, and the seventh game of their season.

Johnson’s Katherine Fish opened the scoring in the sixth minute, unassisted. That was the only goal of the first half, and Johnson went into the break with a goal in the bag, and clearly hungry for more.

About 15 minutes into the second half Maddison Prescott doubled Johnson’s lead, with an assist by Kylie Aither. Just 10 minutes later Kylie scored as Johnson extended their dominance to three-nothing. Hillary Ross assisted.

Green Mountain found some salvation when Mercedes Rideout scored their first – and only – goal in the seventy-eighth minute.

It was an important win for the JSC women: a victory in their first North Atlantic Conference contest, and their first win of the season. They stand at one and zero in the conference; one and six for their season.

The game stats make Johnson’s dominance over Green Mountain obvious. They had 35 shots (15 on goal) to Green Mountain’s five shots (four on goal.) Johnson had eitht corner kicks to Green Mountain’s two.

This could be the win that the Badgers needed to get on their two feet for the rest of the season.
