Mens Badgers fend off VTC at home game

The Johnson State College mens basketball team captured its second win of the young season Tuesday, Nov. 27, at home against Vermont Technical College. The final score was 92-83.

Johnson’s offense produced early on in the game behind big first halves by freshman Austin Robinson and senior point guard Andy Bousono. Bousono had two 3-pointers early in the game, giving the Badgers a 20-11 lead five minutes into the game.

“We wanted to keep the undefeated record at home and we did just that,” said Bousono. “I came out aggressive and I think we sent a message to let them know this is our territory, and it’s not going to be easy.”

The game was close to begin with, but a scoring frenzy late in the first half put Johnson State up by 21 points.

“Overall we played great team game,” Bousono said. “We shared the ball well and were able to get a big run going to end the half.”
Coach Michael Osborne implemented a 2-3 zone, which sparked the huge run. While playing in the zone, Johnson State was able to cause turnovers that led to fast-break opportunities.

All five of the Johnson State starters scored in the double digits.

Bryan Hickey had 14 points, including a buzzer beating three at the end of the first half.

Asim Khan scored 13 points and senior co-captain Cody Camisa added 15 points and 6 rebounds.

Robinson had a team high of 21 points on the night, a season high and a break-out performance for the freshman guard.
“I haven’t been playing well and coach told me he needed me to have a big game tonight so I tried to focus, play my game, and hit my shots,” said Robinson, who also had six rebounds.

In the second half Vermont Technical College had a run to cut their deficit to 10 points, ending the game with a deficit of nine.
