Robertson abroad

Senior Brittany Robertson, a fixture on the Johnson State College women’s basketball team, spent part of her summer traveling Italy with American International Sports Tours (AIST).

She and fellow AIST basketball teammates competed on an international level with representing their countries and their schools.

At first, Robertson was nervous about leaving the country alone, but after some gentle nudging and encouragement from friends and family, she decided to embark on her journey abroad. “While I was there I just kept thinking to myself this is a once in a lifetime opportunity that I might not be able to get again.”

Robertson traveled to Rome, Venice, Milan, Florence, the Vatican City, Lake Como and San Marino while on her whirlwind tour. Her days consisted of basketball, touring and testing out the local cuisine.

“I learned a lot of history about art, different cultures and a lot about the different places around Italy. I also experienced different competition with basketball and how different the rules and regulations were–I even had a teammate from Australia!”
Robertson is happy to be home and back into the swing of things as her season is about to start on Wednesday, but she would go back in a heartbeat.

This year, Johnson State student-athletes are being asked to consider how they leave their mark on their surroundings. Robertson feels confident that she represented her home country and school well.
