    Local ski areas offer deals

As the mountains finally become snow covered, many students are preparing to ski and snowboard this winter. There are a variety of season pass’ and package deals available for college students for a discounted price.

Smugglers Notch Ski Resort and Bolton Valley Ski Resort are offering the “2 For U” College season pass this winter for $399. The “2 For U” seasons pass allows unrestricted access all season long to both Smugglers Notch and Bolton Valley’s 148 total trails, 300 inches of yearly snow, hundreds of acres of glades, and eight terrain parks.

Smugglers Notch is the closest ski resort, just 20 minutes way from JSC. Bolton Valley is just a little over an hour away from the Johnson State College campus and offers night skiing every night from 4p.m.-8p.m.

Stowe Mountain Resort, the second closest mountain to Johnson State College, is offering a full-time college student season’s pass for $499 this winter. The Stowe season’s pass includes full, unrestricted access to the highest mountain in Vermont. Stowe has two peaks, 113 trails, six lifts, and five terrain parks sponsored by Burton Snowboards. Stowe Mountain Resort receives roughly 340 inches of snow per year and is planning on Nov. 17.

Jay Peak is selling a season pass for $299 until 11/15 and $499 after that. Jay is roughly 45 minutes from Johnson State College and offers 385 acres of skiable terrain, nine lifts, 76 trails, and the highest average snowfall in Vermont with 376 inches yearly. Many students choose Jay Peak because of their awesome snowfall and advanced backcountry terrain.

Bolton Valley, Jay Peak, and Mad River Glen offer the “Triple Major” for $429 after November 7, 2012, which includes unlimited access to all three, although Mad River Glen is a Skier only mountain. In total, the “Triple Major” offers a combined 191 trails spread over 3 mountains.

Students interested in purchasing any of these seasons passes should contact the mountain as soon as possible because the rates are constantly going up as the season draws closer.
