Amber Follansbee volunteers at SERVE

For the past month and a half, the SERVE Office has been planning and sending out SERVE Local trips in Lamoille County to support our community non-profits. Each trip is focused on direct service and bringing people together.
What is direct service? Essentially it means doing work that’s needed to be done and helping lessen the load so that organizations are able to do more specialized tasks.
When we send a group to Meals on Wheels, that means chopping vegetables, baking cookies and bagging utensils.
When we send a group to ReSOURCE, that means moving furniture, organizing merchandise and breaking down boxes.
At the Community Meal right in town, volunteers wash dishes and get to know the community by serving meals. These smaller actions can take up a lot of time for full time employees, meaning they have less time to do the other things that make their organization run.
By the end of October, we will have organized and sent volunteers to nine events in the community, completing over fifty service hours in the first two months of school alone.
Are you ready to get involved? Meet new people on and off campus? Discover a passion for strong direct service? Sign up in SERVE today to see what you can do! Office is located in Stearns 408, or email [email protected] with questions.
