JOHNSON, Vt. – Visiting University of Maine-Farmington used an 16-0 surge in the second half to turn a two-point deficit into a nine-point lead as the Beavers picked up a 66-52 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over Johnson State College on Saturday. Johnson stands at 5-17, 5-10 NAC while Farmington improves to 15-8, 14-2 NAC.

Johnson State saw junior point guard Andy Bousono (Philadelphia, Penn./Nueva Esperanza) score a team-best 13 points and record four assists while senior forward Brian Phelps (Milton, Vt./Milton) tossed in 12 points. Senior forward Alen Turan (Essex, Vt./Essex) scored seven points and hauled in a team-high 10 rebounds.

UMF received double-double’s from both sophomore center Ben Johnson (Manchester, Maine) (14 points and 10 rebounds) and freshman forward Joe McCloskey (Howland, Maine) (10 points and 11 rebounds) while sophomore Andrew Dickey (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) scored a game-high 18 points off the Beaver bench. Hickey’s effort including a 4-6 3-point shooting effort. Sophomore Pet Sumner (Cramerton, N.C.) hit four 3-pointers en route to 12 points.

With Farmington leading 28-24 at the half, Johnson scored the first six points out of the locker room to seize a 30-28 lead. But Sumner would drill three of his four 3-pointers in three consecutive possessions to key the 16-0 run that gave the Beavers a 44-30 lead with 14:01 to play. Johnson would not get closer than 10 points the rest of the way.

Johnson, honored a trio of seniors prior to the game in Phelps, Turan, and Timmy Respass (Philadelphia, Penn./Bucks County CC) who were playing in their final game in Carter Gym, moves on to play at Castleton State College on Tuesday in their next outing at 7:30 p.m. Also, Farmington will host Husson University on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in their next tilt
