Badgers win one, lose one against Wildcats

LONGMEADOW, Mass.

-In a rescheduled NCAA DIII regional women’s softball match-up the Wildcats of Bay Path College split with the Badgers of Johnson State on Thurday afternoon. Bay Path took the first game 4-1, while Johnson State came back and took the nightcap in 10-0 in a five innings game. Johnson State moves to 6-8 on the year and 3-3 in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC).

During the first of two games, freshman pitcher Katrina Lury (Corinth, Vt.) threw a six hitter allowing one run over the course of seven innings Lury is now 4-4 on the season. Sophomore centerfielder Katherine Chabot (Brookfield, Mass.) led her team going 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run. Three other Wildcats scattered hits for the game including- sophomore Marina Rhodes (Providence, R.I.), freshman Anna Meyer (Millbrook, N.Y.) and freshman outfielder Katie Sperry (Guilford, Conn.).

Johnson State’s lone run came in the top of the third when junior outfielder Amber McCullock (Morrisville, Vt.) plated fellow junior catcher Emily Himberg (Williston, Vt.) on a double shot.

Sophomore pitcher Kristy McDonnell (Quechee, Vt.) suffered the loss with three strike-outs and four walks.

Game two saw the Badgers sting Bay Path 10-0. Offensively, Amanda McLean (Woodhaven, N.Y.) led the Badgers, scoring twice in as many times at bat. The Badgers saw eight separate runners   cross home plate over the courts of five innings. 

Johnson’s Andrea Williams (Thornburn, Nova Scotia) picked up the win striking out 9 and allowing zero earned runs on one hit and not walking a batter.The Wildcats freshman Maria Carta (Middletown, Conn.) was the losing pitcher giving up six hits and ten runs.

Johnson will travel to Maine Maritime for a NAC doubleheader this Saturday, April 13th for a 10:00AM start. Bay Path hosts two NECC doubleheaders this weekend Mitchell on Saturday, April 13th and Lesley on Sunday, April 14th.
