The Johnson State women’s basketball team used an overtime rally to take an 85-71 win at Johnson State’s Carter Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Badgers improve to 5-13 on the year and 5-7 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play while Lyndon slides to 1-15 overall and 1-10 in the NAC.

Freshman Eliannie Sola paced the Badgers with a game-high 22 points, going 4-6 outside the arc while fellow freshman teammate Kasey DeGreenia chipped in 11 points towards the win while pulling down 14 off the glass.

Sarah Vorhis led the game in rebounds grabbing a game-high of 15.

Chelsea Bagley led her team contributing 21 points, four rebounds and two assists in the Hornets’ losing effort. She was assisted by Emily Gray who notched 13 points.

The Badgers jumped out to an early 21-8, after 10 minutes of play. Johnson continued to pull away from Lyndon extending its lead to 33-18 at the half. Lyndon started to chip away at the Badgers’ lead in the second half using a three from Bagley just 18 minutes into the second stanza to ignite an 11-3 run for the visitors.

Johnson held onto the lead until an Emily Gray free throw tied things up 66-66 with eight seconds left on the clock.

Johnson took a thirty second timeout to regroup but was unable to convert their play into a scoring opportunity, sending the game into overtime.

Johnson immediately took control of the extra time, going on a 15-3 run to put them ahead 69-82 with 1:55 left to play in overtime. Lyndon was able to sink a free throw with nine seconds left on the clock, but the Badgers momentum carried them to a 85-71 win.

For the game, the Badgers shot 38 percent from the floor (27-71), 40 percent from three-point range (9-22) and went an impressive 73 percent from the foul line (22-30).
