Golden Knights and Badgers split non-conference twinbill

The Johnson state softball team split a pair of non-conference matches (6-1 W, 7-1L) against Clarkson University on Friday, April 18 at Johnson State College. Johnson State moves to 6-13 on the season and 5-2 in the NAC while Clarkson now stands 2-20 on the year.

During the first of two games, freshman pitcher Alex Macey threw a six hitter allowing just two runs from 29 batters over the course of seven innings. Macey also led her team offensively knocking in the team’s only homerun and two RBIs in the process.

Freshman Anna Bingham pulled her weight crossing the plate twice for the Badgers in two at bats.

Clarkson’s lone run came in the top of the first when Tirzah Smith plated Louise Terwilliger on  a base hit.

Macey picked up the win for Johnson with two strike outs while Smith suffered the loss despite her three strike-outs.

Game two saw the Golden Knights sting Johnson 7-1. Bingham led the Badgers offensively, socring the only run of the game in the sixth inning when she knocked a pitch over the fence and rounded home.

Clarkson saw three runs from Jamie Bridge, two from MacKenzie Pelton and one a piece off of Louise Terwilliger and Katie Pelton.

Pelton picked up the win  on the mound, striking out five and allowing one earned runs on six hits.

Johnson will host NAC opponent Castleton tomorrow for games at 2:00p and 4:00p at Minaert field.
