Eagles thump Badgers 21-3

Senior Anthony Cotoni notched seven goals and three assists for 10 points and David Downie posted five goals and an assist as host Daniel Webster opened its home schedule with a 21-3 victory over Johnson State on March 16 at Eagle Field.

Tre Mason added three goals and an assist with eight groundballs and Adam Letarte pulled in a game-best nine groundballs and scored once as the Eagles bumped over .500 improving to 3-2 and bested the Badgers (0-1) for the 10th time in 13 all-time meetings.

Mason Phillips paced Johnson State with three goals. Dominic Caforia and Phillip Perkins picked up five groundballs each.

Curtis Larade and Harley Hagan split goalkeeping duties for the Eagles, with Larade stopping two in the first half and Hagan halting eight in the second. Zach Shuttle made 22 saves for the Badgers.

DWC, which outshot JSC 43-13, fell behind 1:30 into the first on Phillips first of the day, but Cotoni knocked in two at the 10:48 and 6:25 mark sparking a run of seven straight Eagle scores to take control.

DWC led 5-1 after one and 13-2 at the half. The 21 goals was the third highest single game total in program history.

DWC scored 12 straight over a stretch from 11:30 to go in the second to 7:30 remaining in the fourth. In all, Cotoni notched two in the first, and five in the second. Downie scored two in the first, two in the second and one in the third.

The Eagles host Albertus Magnus on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Johnson State visits Mitchell on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
