Badgers top Green Mountain for First Win of Season

JOHNSON, Vt. – The Johnson State College women’s tennis team beat Green Mountain College 7-2 on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 10.

 

Doubles
Johnson was able to take two out of three doubles from the Eagles before going into singles. The team of Kali Covell (Hartford, Vt.) and Nicole Monick (Bennington, Vt.) dropped their match 8-5, but the duo of Mikayla Messier (Sheldon, Vt.) and Sam Kershner (Essex, Vt.) were able to win their match 8-3. Ashley Fogg (White River Junction, Vt.) and Sarah Lind (Winooski, Vt.) also won their match by a score of 8-2.

 

Singles
Johnson took all but one single matches against Green Mountain. Covell beat Green Mountain’s Paige Vlahos 6-1, 6-1 in first singles. Monick won in dramatic fashion in second doubles, taking her opponent to a super tiebreak and wining 10-8 after splitting the first two sets 7-5, 4-6. Messier dropped her match 6-2,7-5 in third singles play. In fourth singles Fogg blanked her opponent in both games, 6-0 respectively. Kershner won fifth singles 6-1, 6-2 while Lind also won sixth singles 6-1, 6-0.
