Johnson Drops NAC Opener to Colby-Sawyer

JOHNSON, Vt. – The Johnson State College women’s tennis team fell to Colby-Sawyer College 9-0 in their first North Atlantic Conference match of the season on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 12.

 

DOUBLES

Colby-Sawyer (4-0, 2-0 NAC) won all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead over Johnson (1-3, 0-1 NAC) into singles play. The first team doubles pair of Kali Covell (Hartford, Vt.) and Nicole Monick (Bennington, Vt.) was swept 8-0 by the team of Ashley Woodside and Michelle Lopes. Mikayla Messier (Sheldon, Vt.) and Sam Kershner (Essex, Vt.) earned early points in second doubles, but the Chargers Evelyn Miller and Aislinn O’Connor powered through to take the 8-2 victory. Ashley Fogg (White River Junction, Vt.) and Sarah Lind (Winooski, Vt.) fell in third doubles 8-0 to Lauren Blanchard and Christine Hill.

 

SINGLES

The Chargers swept singles to take the 9-0 victory. Monick was able to take a point in each set but fell 6-1, 6-1 in first flight singles to Woodside. Miller took care of Messier in straight 6-0 sets in second singles, while Fogg dropped third singles 6-0, 6-1 to O’Connor.

Kershner and Lind dropped fourth and fifth singles in straight 6-0 sets to Blanchard and Hill, while Grace Page (Bennington, Vt.) fell to Lopes in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.
