Men’s B-ball downs St. Joseph

JOHNSON, Vt. – The Johnson State College men’s basketball team defeated the College of St. Joseph 79 -63 in their season opener on Wednesday, Nov. 15, in Carter Gym.
The Badgers start their season 1-0 while the Fighting Saints go to 0-2.
1st HALF
The teams traded baskets early on with the score tied at seven five minutes in. Johnson went on a 33-19 run from that point to close the half and take a 40-26 lead into the intermission.
2nd HALF
The Badgers gained their largest lead of the night seven minutes into the second half to go up by 22 with a 57-35 lead. The Fighting Saints went on a 17-6 run to pull within 11, but the Badgers held them off to take the 79-63 win.

Men’s B-ball falls to Southern
Vermont

JOHNSON, Vt. – The Johnson State College men’s basketball team fell to Southern Vermont College 66-57 on Saturday, Nov. 18, at Carter Gym.
The Badgers move to 1-1 on the season while the Mountaineers go to 2-0.
1st HALF
The teams were evenly matched through the majority of the first half, with neither team holding more than a five point lead in the first 14 minutes. With the scored tied at 21 with 6:34 left in the half, Southern Vermont went on a 16-7 run to take a 37-28 lead into the break.
Jeyquan Johnson (Harlem, N.Y.) led all players in the half with nine points and six rebounds, while Marqwon Wynn (Wilmington, Del.) added six points and four assists. Claude Payne led Southern Vermont with eight points while Mike Pierre and Kyle Depollar added seven points each.
2nd HALF
The Mountaineers kept the pressure on in the second half, holding a 12 point lead with 11 minutes remaining, 49-37. The Badgers swung the momentum and chipped away to pull within three with a Wynn layup with three minutes left in the game. Southern Vermont answered back with a Pierre layup to make the score 61-54. The Mountaineers hit five free throws down the stretch and held off the Badgers to take the 66-57 victory.
Wynn scored nine points to lead Johnson in the half, with Johnson adding seven more. Pierre carried the load for Southern Vermont in the second with 12 points and three steals.

Men’s B-ball loses to Middlebury 84-77

JOHNSON, Vt. – The Johnson State College men’s basketball team fell to #8 Middlebury College 84-77 on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Carter Gym.
The Badgers move to 1-2 on the season while the Panthers go to 3-0.
1st HALF
The teams traded points in the opening minutes, with the score tied at 16 at the 11:36 mark. The Panthers went on a 28-11 run to close out the half to take a 44-27 advantage into the break.
2nd HALF
The Badgers hung around in the first part of the second, preventing the Panthers from going on a run to put them away. Johnson eventually pulled the Middlebury lead down to nine with 8:50 remaining. The Panthers held off the Badger push, however, and took the 84-77 win.

Women’s B-ball succumbs to Middlebury 74-27

JOHNSON, Vt. – The Johnson State College women’s basketball team fell to the Middlebury College 74-27 on Tuesday, Nov. 21, in Carter Gym.
The Badgers move to 0-2 on the season while Middlebury improves to 3-0.

1ST QUARTER
Middlebury started strong, taking a 27-4 lead after one.
2ND QUARTER
The Panthers maintained momentum in the second and took a 50-9 lead into halftime.
3RD QUARTER
The Badgers slowed Middlebury’s offense in the third, allowing just ten points. The Panthers held a 60-13 lead into the final quarter.
4TH QUARTER
The teams were evenly matched in the fourth, with each scoring 14 points in the quarter to give Middlebury the 74-27 victory.
