Johnson Leads Age Division at Inaugural Triathlon Race

SOUTH BERWICK, ME — The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women’s triathlon team soared at the Pumpkinman Triathlon on September 8th and 9th in South Berwick, Maine. The team featured top-place finishes in their first event in the Badgers’ inaugural season.

Results

Senior Margaret Connelly (McLean, VA) led the way for the Badgers, taking first place in the Women’s 20-24 age division and earning sixth place among 252 women overall. Maggie ranked first place in the division in the bike portion of the competition, clocking in at 43:55 for the 14.25 mile ride. Connelly also excelled with swimming and running coming in second place for the division in both events.

Sophomore Ellery Kiefer (Wayland, MA) placed second in the Women’s 20-24 age division and 19th out of 252 female competitors. Kiefer took first place in the swimming portion of the competition, going the 1/3 mile distance in 7:44. Kiefer finished just behind Connelly to take second for the age division in the bike portion of the competition with a time of 44:42.

Senior Molly Cross (Colchester, Vt) finished strong for the Badgers to place eighth in the Women’s 20-24 age division and 118th out of 252 female competitors. Cross rounded out the top five in the swimming portion of the event, going the distance in 9:40.

Next up

Johnson will travel to Longmont, Colorado to compete at the West Regional Qualifier on Sunday, September 23rd. The race is slated to begin at 8:00am.

 

Badgers Sweep Lyndon 9-0 in Home Opener

JOHNSON, Vt. – The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women’s tennis team swept Northern Vermont University-Lyndon 9-0 in their home opener on Saturday afternoon.

Doubles

Grace Page (Bennington, Vt) and Mikayla Messier (Sheldon, Vt) started the day strong for the Badgers, taking their match 8-3. Sam Kershner (Essex, Vt) and Rebecca Simon (New Prague, MN), as well as Elizabeth Chitambar (Newport, Vt) and Iris Serrano (Stowe, Vt) walked away from their matches with 8-0 victories.

Singles

The Badgers went 6-6 in singles matches versus the Hornets. In the first singles matchup, Page was victorious over Lyndon’s Savannah Jackson 6-2 and 6-0. Simon, Messier, and Chitambar held their opponents scoreless in 6-0, 6-0 defeats.

The Badgers will travel to Lesley University on Saturday, September 22nd. Competition will begin at 11:00 p.m.
