Hornets top Badgers in NAC play

The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women’s basketball team concluded the 2018-2019 season with a loss to Northern Vermont University-in an NVU Presidents Cup Challenge matchup on Feb. 13.
The Badgers were led by Mariah Ramos (Lebanon, N.H.) who recorded a double-double on the evening. Ramos paced the Badgers with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Lindsey LaPerle (Bethel, Vt.) added 11 points and 8 rebounds.

The Hornets and Badgers battled early in the contest. The Badgers took the early lead, leading 12-10 midway through the first stint. The Hornets held their composure leading by six points after the first stint. Throughout the second the Hornets maintained a single digit advantage throughout most of the second quarter and took a 33-24 lead to halftime.

Ramos came out in the beginning of the second half knocking down a shot behind the arc for the Badgers, but the Hornets held the lead for the majority of the second half. The Hornets had a commanding 53-29 lead after three. Johnson was never able to mount a rally in the final period, as the Hornets cruised to victory.

Alissa Mitchell led the Hornets with 17 points and eight rebounds. Alisha Celley notched a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds, while Young added 11 points and Ashlynn Bardos pulled down 12 boards.

With the win the Hornets improve to 13-11 on the season and finish 8-6 in North Atlantic Conference play. The Badgers finish their season at 2-22. The Hornets have earned the #4 seed in the upcoming NAC tournament.
