A brief overview of JSC athletics

The Johnson State College women’s basketball team defeated UMaine-Farmington 72-46 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Saturday afternoon.

 
The Badgers improve to 9-9 overall and 6-6 in the NAC, while the Beavers drop to 3-13 on the season and 3-9 in the conference.

 

 

1st Quarter
UMaine-Farmington jumped out to an early lead, holding a 13-4 lead halfway through the first. Johnson came back on a 13-2 run to take a 17-15 lead after one. Sarah Voorhis (Nashua, N.H.) led the Badgers with five points in the opening frame.

 

 

2nd Quarter
Johnson extended their lead in the second, going on an 11-1 run to start the quarter, and taking a 32-23 lead into halftime. Voorhis once again paced Johnson with six points in the period.

 

 

3rd Quarter
The Badgers furthered their lead in the third period, outscoring the Beavers 21-12 in the quarter to take a 53-35 lead into the fourth. Domonique Carter-Stanley (Norwalk, Conn.) was Johnson’s leading scorer in the third with six points.

 

 

4th Quarter
Johnson put the Beavers away in the fourth outscoring UMaine-Farmington 19-11 to take the 72-46 victory.

 
Johnson Leaders
Voorhis and Kaitlyn Brouard (Milton, Vt.) each picked up 14 points to lead Johnson. Carter-Stanley and Kasey DeGreenia (Concord, Vt.) added 12 more each for the Badgers.

 

 

UMaine-Farmington Leaders
Morgan Crocker led UMaine-Farmington with 11 points, while Kennadi Grover added 10 more.

 

 

Stat Breakdown
Johnson outshot the Beavers 39.2 percent to 27.6 percent from the field, while also holding a 50 percent to 20 percent advantage from three-point range. Johnson held the 53-41 edge in rebounds, while Johnson committed 8 turnovers while forcing 17.

The Johnson State College women’s basketball team defeated Thomas College 48-43 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Friday evening.
The Badgers improve to 8-9 overall and 5-6 in the NAC, while Thomas falls to 5-13 on the season and 2-9 in the conference.

 

 

1st Quarter
The teams stayed close through the early portions of the first with Johnson tying the game at nine with 3:23 left in the frame. Johnson scored five straight to take a 14-9 lead to the start of the second. Ashley Goddard (Jamaica, Vt.) paced the Badgers with five points, while Amira Jones led Thomas with four.

 

 

2nd Quarter
Thomas kept things even through the second with neither team able to take a multi-possession lead through the quarter. Johnson would end the half with a 27-25 edge. Domonique Carter-Stanley (Norwalk, Conn.) led Johnson with six points in the quarter.

 

 

3rd Quarter
The Badgers gradually increased their lead in the third, outscoring Thomas 12-4 in the quarter to take a 39-29 lead into the final quarter.

 

 

4th Quarter
The Terriers pulled back in the fourth, bringing the score to 45-41 with 2:45 remaining in the game. The Badgers held them off, however, taking the 48-43 victory. Carter-Stanley led Johnson with five points in the quarter, while Jones and Karli Stubbs each picked up six for Thomas.

 

 

Johnson Leaders
Carter-Stanley paced the Badgers with 15 points and six steals. Sarah Voorhis (Nashua, N.H.) picked up ten more and pulled in nine rebounds. Kasey DeGreenia (Concord, Vt.) hauled in a game high 15 rebounds for Johnson.

 

 

Thomas Leaders
Jones picked up 12 points and six rebounds for Thomas, while Stubbs added nine more. Jordan Turner pulled in a team high seven rebounds for Thomas.

 

 

Stat Breakdown
Thomas outshot Johnson 32.0 percent to 27.9 percent from the field, while also holding a 23.5 percent to 14.3 percent advantage from three-point range. Johnson held the 43-40 edge in rebounds by a 43-40 margin. Johnson committed 17 turnovers while forcing 24.

The Johnson State College men’s basketball team fell to Thomas College 71-59 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Friday night.

 
The Badgers fall to 7-11 on the season and 4-7 in the NAC, while the Terriers improve to 9-9 on the season and 7-4 in the conference.

 

 

1st Half
The teams traded leads in the early going with Johnson holding a 20-19 edge midway through the half. Three straight Zach Mackinnon three-pointers gave Thomas a 28-20 lead with 7:27 left in the period. Johnson battled back, eventually taking a 36-31 lead with 2:48 remaining. Thomas scored seven unanswered to close out the half with a 38-36 advantage. Benjamin Holl (Philadelphia, Pa.) led Johnson with 11 points in the half. Mackinnon led all scorers with 15 for the Terriers, shooting 5-6 from three-point range.

 

 

2nd Half
The Terriers stormed out of the break with a 15-1 run, giving them a 53-37 lead with 10:51 remaining. Johnson chipped away at the Thomas lead, pulling the score to 57-54 on a Holl layup with 5:59 on the clock. Thomas put Johnson away in the closing minutes, outscoring the Badgers 14-5 down the stretch to take the 71-59 victory. Holl and Kawaun Chavis (Philadelphia, Pa.) paced the Badgers in the half with eight points each, while Tyheem Simon led the Terriers with 11.

 

 

Johnson Leaders
Johnson was led by Holl, who scored 19 points and picked up five assists. Chavis added 17 more points and seven rebounds, while Demetrius Slade (Washington, D.C.) hauled in 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals.

 

 

Thomas Leaders
Simon led all scorers with 22 points, with Mackinnon coming in right behind him with 21. Carlos Gonzalez picked up a 12 point, 10 rebound double-double. Ian King picked up 12 assists and nine rebounds for Thomas.

 

 

Stat Breakdown
Thomas outshot Johnson 45.9 percent to 37.3 percent from the field, while also holding a 40.0 percent to 34.6 percent edge beyond the arc. Thomas doubled-up Johnson in rebounds by a 50-25 margin. Johnson won the turnover battle, forcing 24 and committing just 16.
